Medical Services

Safety and medical care for all competitors, event volunteers and the general public is of utmost importance at all Royal Canadian Henley Regatta events. A team of top notch physicians, nurses with emergency room experience, paramedics, physio and athletic therapists, chiropractic care and registered massage therapists all work out of dedicated, well equipped medical facilities located right on Henley Island.

The team also includes on water volunteers for water rescue and safety as they patrol the 2 kilometer course in Zodiac rescue-equipped boats. Medical aid posts are located in the shellhouse on Henley Island and on the Henley Grandstand presentation platform during racing hours.

Certain treatment may require cash payment by those unable to provide proof of medical insurance coverage. The Regatta Committee accepts no responsibility for any medical expenses incurred by competitors or officials.

NOTE: The regatta Medical Staff, in conjunction with the Chief Umpire/Regatta Chairman, have the power to rule any competitor medically unfit to row or to halt the regatta should weather conditions such as extreme temperatures, rough water or lightning pose a danger to the competitors.

As needed, Henley Medical Services is also supported by the St. Catharines’ Hospital and Niagara’s Ambulance Service.
